Scenes
Scene 1
- Ulfhild has a drinking contest with Gavrik Gale
- Ulfhild throws up on Shalidor.
- They both become friends with Gavrik Gale who offers a drink to Shalidor
- Tells the party about an Ivarr who was looking for an island named Myrkholm.
- Shalidor bangs his head on the table as a method of grabbing attention.
- Shalidor performs Druidcraft (Bloom) to impress Laena Tallbrand
- Laena then tells them about Ivarr staying at the tavern for a month.
- Laena tells Shalidor that Ivarr showed her the same trick.
Scene 2
- Ysabelle Haight, the Tavernkeeper, is a stern woman, who wouldn't budge when it comes to expenses.
- Bouncer is a Half-Orc named Xurl, there's something like a large iron gauntlets hanging from the wall right where he is sitting.
- Shalidor gives 75sp to Ysabelle as payment.
- Ysabelle tells the party that Ivarr stayed for 1 month, then paid for the next month in advance. But one week into the 2nd month, he went away saying that he would come back in 2 weeks. But it has been 4 weeks now.
- Ysabelle gives a key to Ivarr's room to Ulfhild after testing her asking where her warband is from. Ulfhild replies that they're from the Sea of Fallen Stars.
Scene 3
- The party goes to the second floor, and open the second room on the left. The right side of the corridor are windows that open on to the street outside, and the harbour as well.
- They find a table, a chair, a bed, and empty shelves, along with a window that opens to the street on the back side of the tavern.
- On the table is a map which is divided into cells, and a copy of Sailor's Guide to Moonshae Isles, and a divider that is fixed to a certain distance (111 miles).
- The map also has "332 miles" written on it in ink.
- MYRKHOLM is mentioned in passing in a paragraph that goes something like:
- "...the livelihood of many smaller islands like Myrkholm depends exports common perishable goods like dried fish, coconut products, and decorative artisanal crafts..."
- The following information was garnered from puzzling over this.. uhh.. puzzle:
- T8, T9, R14, R15, S11, R12, R13 - Open seas.
- Q7 - Large Rock Formations visible on map. Sailor usually avoid this spot. (NOT the entire cell)
- S10 - Very Minor Rock Formations
- Q9 - Mintarn is a port town where sailors stay for a day or two before continuing on their journeys. It's a beautiful island and actually known for tourism.
- P8 - An island named Whitecliff, which is a major trade hub as it is in the midpoint between the Moonshae and Sword Coast, making it a place where exotic goods are exchanged. Seagate is the major port town, while Westgate is a minor port.
- Q8 - Island of Kestrel Point, small port town of Windward, small trade. Sailors usually opt for Seagate for their trade.
- T10 - Islet of Fenmere, village of Willow Dock (non-descript village) with no port for big ships.
- P10 - Isle of Sealwatch, port town of Driftport. A specific species of crab called Fireshell Crabs inhabit this island. Their shells have a coloration that looks like flames, and the meat is inherently spicy. This is considered a delicacy in certain circles, and these crabs are imported back into Caer Callidyrr.
- The party notices that certain items were moved away from the room recently. Specific example is that there is fresh ink blot on the table, but there's no inkpot or quill.
Scene 4
- Laena Tallbrand comes back and knocks on the door, she comes in and reveals that Ysabelle is the one who sold many of Ivarr's belongings.
- She tells them that Ysabelle cares for everyone, and she only sold it because she wanted to keep the room reserved for another week.
- But Laena had secretly held on to a box that Ivarr used to keep because she thought it was precious to Ivarr.
- The Lockbox looks like its made of dark varnished wood, with intricate patterns of elven design.
-
Shalidor discerns that it is enchanted by the Arcane Lock spell and require a spoken password for it to be opened.
-
Laena tells Ulfhild the last clue about Ivarr's identity which is an eagle tattoo on his wrist.
-
This is enough for Ulfhild to identify Ivarr, and she speaks the password.
- "Shade is given to those who kneel"
-
The Lockbox opens and inside it is what appears to be an extremely decorated and ornate hammer.
- Shalidor studies it and figures out that this is actually an extremely rare piece of weaponry called a Weavelock.
It looks like a revolver, but it functions like a flintlock pistol. Each chamber of the cylinder of the revolver looks like a vial containing a very viscous silvery-pink liquid. The back of the cylinder is a spider like design with 6 legs for each of the chambers, each legs sitting slightly about each chamber (without making contact). The barrel of the revolver can be rotated around in 180 degrees. If the firing side is facing forward, the revolver is ready to fire and a trigger appears out of the weapon. For safety, the barrel should be pointing back towards the user.
- There's also a compartment underneath where the Weavelock was stored, which stored ammunition, which only had 1 metallic sphere with engravings on it.
- Shalidor is able to read this because it's in Elvish. It's a spell that make this sphere a conduit for electrical currents, enabling the Weavelock to accelerate this projectile at high velocities.
- This is of course all theoretical, as Shalidor has never seen or read about Weavelocks before.
- Shalidor finally puts the metallic sphere into the Weavelock, and notice the spider legs now attach firmly on top of each of the vials. The vials themselves also seem to be glowing in rhythm.
- Shalidor smartly puts the Weavelock outside the box, so that the Arcane Lock doesn't go into effect.
