- Shalidor offers to appraise the book.
- Largest of the 3 thugs starts to threaten Edric, and a fight breaks out.
- Shalidor kills all 3 thugs while a thug named Lowenna killed herself after being intimidated by Shalidor.
- Lowenna was scared of Shalidor being a wizard and even more scared of failure.
- Lowenna seems to be scared of a fate worse than death.
- Shalidor finds a note saying "The Bookwyrm's Rest" on the thug named Ceredan.
- Shalidor took 4 books with him
- A Sailor's Guide to the Moonshae Isles (Mentions Myrkholm in passing)
- A Brief History of Caer Calidyrr
- Observations Upon the Behaviour of Enchanted Ink
- Puzzlebook by Volke
- Shalidor casts Hold Person on Edric and draws silly drawings on his face before sneaking off to the Forest Quarter, and into the woods.
Scene 2
- Shalidor learns a new lv2 spell named Living Writing after studying the Observations Upon the Behaviour of Enchanted Ink, which enchants 1 bottle of ink, which upon being written can transform into any other shapes after the specified time. This time shouldn't be more than 3 hours.
- Shalidor looks through his books, and realises that the Puzzlebook is actually a spellbook of a Wizard named Volke.
- The spellbook contains journals and spells recorded by what appears to be an extremely skilled Wizard.
- Shalidor sees lv6th, lv7th and lv8th spells, but cannot comprehend it.
- At one point in the book, the handwriting becomes haphazard and rushed, which continues on for several pages all the while suggesting that last 10-20 pages or so were written in a single stretch of time, with the last line saying "Must reach Myrkholm"
- Shalidor channels the Weave on to the spellbook and suddenly felt like he entered a trance, where he understood some things, but can't consciously make out what it is.
- He understands that the last diagrams of what looked like a tree, was actually representing the nerve structure of a brain.
- He understands that whatever these last pages meant, it was definitely dealing with the concept of memories.
- Shalidor feels a familiarity to what he sees, as if there's a deep connection between him and these concepts.
- Shalidor exits the trance.
- Shalidor goes to sleep.
